Tucson, Arizona

Arizona's famous Saguaro Cacti!!  All shapes and sizes.  I took a FEW photos!!!!!  Alistair got tired of me saying ...."stop, pull over......look at that one....I need a picture of it!!"  If he survived that day....he must love me:o))))))
 Now THIS was  BIG one!!!
Just to prove we are really in Arizona...... not posting fake photos from Campbellford!!  Beautiful scenery and it took us all day to get from Tucson to Phoenix which is a two hour drive.

More

Roadrunner made of junk-- mainly old runners & computer parts..

Los Cruses, New Mexico

Up early (6am) to a beautiful sunrise.  Even I got up to see it!!!  Shocked???  Then stopped on route to see this "Road Runner" statue on top of a hill.  From the road it looked so realistic but up close we were surprised to see it was constructed of junk: old runners, tin cans, licence plates, etc.  Very Unique!!!!!

Fort Davis and Alpine

Fort Davis area has the remnants of an old western fort and an Observatory.  The terrain was beautiful and we stopped to sight see before heading to Alpine for a short stay over night.  Not many vehicles on the winding road.  Weather was really hot and we enjoyed the views from the tree covered mountain tops.  Quite a change from the usual Texas desert/cacti flat lands. Stayed at "Lost Alaskan" RV park in Alpine.  Unusual name for a RV park!!  We never saw any igloos or Eskimos.  But the park was wonderful with a great view and really inexpensive.

Big Bend Park

A bit out of the way but a real gem in the mountains. Unfortunately, my knee limits my hiking ability. A family of Coyotes live in the campground at Rio Grande Village there but no one cares. You can walk across the Rio Grande to Mexico and it looked like out of a cowboy movie.

Once again, no matter how loud you yell, roadrunners do not go "Beep Beep"

Mexico on the left bank & USA on the right.

It was stinkin hot there but soo quiet & peaceful. Wish we could stay longer but time to Boogie again.

Road to Big Bend

Took Hwy # 90 along the Rio Grande to avoid the expressway & found this bridge over the Pecos River near Langtree which was Judge Roy Bean Country

The road to Marathon was scenic but the price of gas there proved that daylight robbery still exists !!

San Antonio

Had to leave Mission due to itchy feet & it was time to explore more. Took the slow road through Laredo to San Antonio. Great Tourist info place just north of Laredo

I think I wanted to see the Alamo since I was 6 & finally did. Still not really sure though if they were brave  or a bit stupid

The riverwalk there is awesome as it is lined with restaurants, stores & malls. Kinda like a bit of Venice in Central Texas. Stayed at Travellers World there & it was ok but could have stayed longer.

Time to move on again & follow the smaller roads going west !!

Before & After

Well the iceman cometh as predicted & it wasn't a pretty sight especially on the palm tree out front..

Even the pelican was fluffed up......

I find it interesting that this area is so religious but people actually wear
there guns to church !!  I guess they haven't heard that
" Atheism is a non-prophet organization". :o)

What the F******

Ok, enough already.. This week is the coldest on record here on the Mexican border. The average high for yesterday was 70f and we hit 33f. I'm sure the low of 23f didn't help the fruit orchards. No cyclists were venturing out except for the lady who takes her parrot for a ride in the cage wired to the handlebars and the man with the yorkie in the baby carrier on his chest with the pink swim goggles on. No, the glasses are on the dog. The parrot actually loves it & talks to everyone they pass. Maybe it's just as well as Mary screwed up her back (probably from riding on the rooster in Mexico) and can't move. Probably better to be disable shitty weather & bedridden than when it's nice out. Getting warm again on Saturday and no shovelling required.
Adios..Time to ride off into the sunset !! And don't forget -

Time flies like an arrow. Fruit flies like a banana !!
