2011 ODD ESSAY - TRIP 2

Back in Mesa after an interesting trip down, starting December 3. Started with a lost cat in Chicago (actually not lost-- Just smarter than 4 adults.  Jessie was hiding in the RV the entire time that Brian, Sue, Alistair and Mary hunted for hours for her inside and outside of the motorhome).  Then we hit snow through Oklahoma, Texas, New Mexico & Arizona. We followed Old Route 66 from Chicago. Our first flat tire ( blow out) in the Arizona mountains which meant waiting for roadside assistance for 4 hours but no damage except to our wallet. Arrived late, but in one piece at the Mesa RV park.  Temperature in Mesa is around 66f - Not great but no snow & sunny. We can handle it...

                                                             Welcome to Oklahoma

Welcome to Texas

Welcome to New Mexico

Welcome to Arizona

Finally !!!!

Well it took about 6 months but time to finish the Blog from last winters travels 5 days before starting this winters travels. We finished up in Moab, Utah at Arches National Park. Beautiful town & area so it was time to splurge & rent a Mustang convertible and soak it in.

BYE !! BYE !!

P.S. Please note geological phallic symbol behind Mary.. (and the smile on her face !!) :o)

La$ Vega$

What can I say !! It's Las Vega$.  Beautiful RV park at great prices near Sam's town. Relaxing for a few days before heading north. Incredibly windy here and apparently that is the norm around now. Met Elvis on the street. Wondered why he wasn't at Graceland !!

Hoover Dam

There is a bridge across now also that wasn't there before. Very scenic but closed in high winds. All RV's are searched since 9-11 when crossing the dam. Actually the search was far more thorough than any border crossing I've encountered. Dam was a make work project during the depression & has enough cement to build a 2 lane highway from L.A. to New York. You can also test shoot your machine gun before purchasing it in Nevada. Isn't that handy !!

Kingman

Kingman is between the Grand Canyon & Las Vegas. In a nice valley that was real nice before you go to bed and covered with snow in the morning.

Grand Canyon

Only a few hours from Monument valley but whole different climate. Was kinda anti-climactic after Monument Valley but we only had about a day and having a blizzard blow in didn't help. Shore is big & deep tho !!!!!

Monument Valley

Went through Flagstaff to Monument Valley which was magnificent. This is where a lot of the old John Wayne cowboy movies were made. Also Forrest Gump and Thelma & Louise. This area was definitely the most scenic so far.

Flagstaff - Skiing all year

Monument Valley

On The Road Again

We are back on track after a bit of a delay. Mary went back to Windsor & was with her mother when she passed away. Somehow, in the process of getting back to Mesa though, she screwed up her back and we spent a couple of days at the hospital with morphene injections. Catscan showed 3 bulging discs. They recommended not moving for a while so we stay put in Arizona. Not a bad place to be stuck for the month of March !! Leaving April 1st for a slow trip north via a few other spots.
Saguaro Park near Mesa and a final Mesa Sunset.
